We ought to look out for each other a bit more in these times. As an organisation, we have built up a culture in which you are welcome as a private individual. There are plenty of check-in moments, for instance, to share how you’re doing, and not just with your manager. My colleagues make me feel that there’s time and room for that, too. So, yes, we do belonging.
Everyone’s experienced loneliness it some time in their lives, or felt that they didn’t belong, so it’s very important to surround yourself with people who inspire you and help you grow. People who give you energy. Nobody should have to feel lonely, because there’s always someone in the world who suits you, who knows how you feel and who sees themselves in you and from whom you can gain strength. That’s why U Belong is such an important message; that you’re seen just like everyone else.
It’s very important that everyone feels welcome, especially at Pride. It makes me sad to hear that people don’t have the courage because they’re alone, but understand it as well, as in a sense it’s a closed culture. It is therefore especially important to show that if you open yourself up, you can meet some wonderful people and also see that you yourself can be a wonderful addition to that community. With the ring, you show that everyone is welcome and can feel safe to come and join in. I wouldn’t dare coming alone so easily myself, because it’s so big and it can be hard to commit to that. This provides an opening to be able to dare take that step after all.
