Rosanne

Senior Accountmanager Digital Small Business

‘I come up with solutions that don't yet exist.'

Rosanne in brief:

  • Senior Account Manager Digital Small Business

  • B2B Direct Sales Department

  • Works in Utrecht and from home

  • Lives in Harderwijk

  • At VodafoneZiggo since 2013

From student job to a successful career as Senior Account Manager – Rosanne van Rijswijk made it happen. She's rather modest about it herself, but there's no doubt that sales is in her blood. Always working closely with her team, she comes up with solutions to meet the most challenging customer requests and more. "It's all about the connection."

It became clear that Rosanne is cut out for the sales trade when she was a student. She developed a fascination for one of the first media boxes rolled out by what was then still UPC. "It was brilliant. So innovative and, therefore, very special. Whenever any of my friends would move house, I'd turn up on the doorstep with a pitch about the media box. And they'd actually buy the thing. Because of me, with zero sales experience. 'I've simply got to pursue this,' I thought. And so I applied for a telesales position at UPC's call centre. Just to have a nice little job on the side."

Reinventing the wheel

What started as a side hustle, was actually the start of Rosanne's career. She is now Senior Account Manager at VodafoneZiggo; a dedicated point of contact for business customers – that very often she herself brought in. "I provide companies with customized solutions in the realms of connectivity and digital transformation. That solution is often initiated by a request to change the contract. Which can be anything, from a relocation to new IT requirements. I offer advice and ensure a smooth quotation phase. And if there are any issues, I have the connections within the company to quickly respond and resolve. We rise to challenges for which there are no off-the-shelf solutions. It's proper custom work."

Almost beached

"Collaborating closely with colleagues in different departments, I come up with solutions that don't yet exist. A case in point is a recent request from the organisers of a beach festival who needed a network for their payment system. Obviously, though, the beach doesn't have an address or internet connections. So we improvised and assigned a home address in our systems to a street box on a roundabout nearby. Thanks to our solution, the festival went ahead as planned. When things come together sweetly like that, I always feel very proud and give myself a little pat on the shoulder. And the icing on the cake: we closed another contract. The bottom line is still sales, after all."

Freedom to flutter

During the past ten years that Rosanne has worked for VodafoneZiggo, she's seen quite a few departments. "I started at the consumer sales department, but I wanted to work at Central Office. That was a real objective for me at the time. I became Project Management Officer at Technology, where I learned an awful lot about the literal nuts and bolts behind the services we provide. But I missed the commercial side of things. Fortunately, I'm back in the thick of it now: a mix of valuable customer contact, targets set in stone, a little strategy and a whole lot of connection."

Sustained development

Rosanne has embraced professional growth like no other. "My managers and Recruitment gave me great support and guidance in that respect. Our Unlimited Learning platform enables you to explore any new avenue imaginable, as long as you take the effort. It keeps me really motivated and I'm still perfectly happy here. At VodafoneZiggo, opportunities are for the taking, so why go elsewhere? This company suits me: the inclusivity, sustainable policies, a safe environment; all things I find important for society as a whole. It makes me really proud to work for an employer determined to make a difference."

Parent-friendly

A lot in life can change in a decade.  Last year, Rosanne gave birth to her baby daughter Fleur. "Being a mother is wonderful, but you need to strike a fine balance. I decided to scale back work to 28 hours a week instead of the usual 36, which was met with understanding by everyone. My targets were lowered accordingly, which was also nice. VodafoneZiggo really takes my work-life balance seriously, and if I need to spend some extra time working from home because schedules are all over the place, it's never a problem. That kind of flexibility means I can spend more quality time with Fleur and that's invaluable. Especially while she's still so young."

Senior connector

"To me, ultimately, it's all about connection. And I'm not just talking about the network connections we sell, but connection in the broadest possible sense. Right from the word go when I joined this company, I've been connecting customers to our brand. Now, as Senior Account Manager, I connect various departments with each other, but also my team members. Our work revolves around people and hinges on the ability to adapt. As long as we keep connecting, I'll get my satisfaction. That's something customers sense."
